Am looking at purchasing an engine but can't identify it. Have found the stamp on the block and it doesn't follow the normal pattern. It starts with JAP then two numbers a space then two more numbers rather then a letter and a series of 4 numbers followed by a 3 letter suffix. I believe this to be a 350 because I have cross referenced the other numbers but I wondered if anyone else has ever come across a sequence like this or perhaps someone might have stamped this with their own brand of identification? Thanks for any help you can give me.

welcome to the board!!
if you look at the driver side rear of the block,, behind the head on the trans bell housing flange,, there's a number there about 8-9 digits. that's the one that will tell you. www.mortec.com will help as well.
