View Full Version : 3 inch exhaust down to 2'1/4 ?
Stak 03-26-2005, 03:35:00 PM I have a custom 3 inch exhaust from the headers (with a x pipe)(dynamax super turbo's) all the way out the rear, I have a new set of powder coated factory z/28 tips that basically will run from the mufflers all the way out, but the tips are 2'1/4 if i go that route will going from such a large diameter down to one as small as that, will it harm anything or affect the scavaging effect? My egine is a 355, about 10:5 to 1 CR, some where around 400hp, i run at the track from time to time, but only for fun & recreation any advice for me?
Camaroz 03-26-2005, 05:08:00 PM I really dont think you will notice a difference. It may choke it down some but since it sounds like you are not trying to win the purse all the time, then you should be fine.

That will work fine but will you be OK with little pipes after having 3" tailpipes?
I have a 3" system on my 383 stroker. I got tired of setting off alarms, loud exhaust and watching out for the lawmen so I put a set of 2-1/2 Super turbos on (enlarged the in /outlets). I lost a little power at top end but the sound is perfect now. Lower tone and alot less alarms going off. Your smaller tips will work fine.
Stak 03-28-2005, 12:12:00 AM z28Mike, yeahh i will be fine with the small pipes, i want it quieter, the guys accused me of having a big block and accused me of being on the bottle lol, heck i had a stock bottom end/dished pistons, about 9:3 to 1 CR, and it ran really good, and i had a bad cam lobe, well anyway I just rebuilt my orginal block, flat topped it, line honed/zero decked, balanced & blue printed, the works, and im going for the stealth look, even grinded the names off my alumnim intake & water pump and painted them gm factory blue just like my block, ect.... anyway youget the idea, the super turbos, really made it alot quieter and i know the factory tips will tone it down even more, anyway thanks man, you told me more of what i really wanted to hear
Z169 03-28-2005, 06:52:00 PM Are Dynomax Super Turbos quieter than say Flowmaster 50's? I need new exhaust on my 77Z28. Thanks! Laurie
Stak 03-28-2005, 06:59:00 PM Laurie, I had flowmasters on my Z at first, im not sure which chambers they were, but it was cool at 1st, but after i went with a 3 inch exhaust, and then on Saturdays when i would go cruisin, after a few hours my ears & head would be ringing, but when I 1st put my Dynamax Super Turbos on, you could barely hear my car run, let alone know it had a 3 inch exhaust, but now, since the mufflers are broke in, it has a deeper tone to it, but incomparison it is much much quieter, and they flowwwww Good too!!!!!!!!!
Z169 03-30-2005, 09:30:00 AM Thanks Stak! I didn''t know that Dynomax Super Turbos come in 3 inch.I guess I'll go with 2.25 or 2.5 inch. Thanks again! L.P. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif
Supak76 03-30-2005, 05:13:00 PM God...I love the sound of my 3 inch duals with flowmaster glasspacks.
