I am replacing the water pump on my no longer dormant 71SS. Should I paint it to match the orange block or leave it the cast color? I can't tell if my current pump was painted since it's covered in surface rust and grease.
What would have it looked like out of the factory in 71? Wondering what you guys think.

DEFINITELY paint it!!!! i dont know what the proper color is, but I would guess to match the motor. If you dont paint it, it will rust for sure. I painted one a nice "aluminum" color and everyone thought it was an aluminum pump. But I think like a gunmetal gray might be ok, or shiny black would be neat. Just dont leave it bare, you will regret it

Even with some aluminum paints it will rust. Use a good one, or just paint it engine color.
