View Full Version : proform carb main bodies anyone used one yet rustbucket 02-13-2007, 08:20:43 PM just seeing if you liked them and how much they helped you thanking about putiing one on my old 3310 750 vs holley thank you joe Air_Adam 02-13-2007, 11:23:44 PM I'm interested too... I'm considering one for my double pumper. Are there any differences between the Proform body and the Holley HP body? Which one is better? ccrider 02-14-2007, 12:00:12 AM i bought one for my 750 dp about 2 years ago cause i stripped out the holes for the front bowl. works great and looks great! the holley main body wasn't avalable at that time. KylePBZ 02-14-2007, 12:02:08 AM Not sure about the vac. secondaries but on my 750dp I like it alot. My problem was that with a dropbase air cleaner and 3" filter the top was less than an inch from the choke horn. At the track with it like that vs. no air cleaner I gained a tenth without the air cleaner. With the proform body and air cleaner I only lost about .05sec. I'd recommend one for sure. CorkyE 02-14-2007, 12:36:28 AM Have one on my 3310 - works great. Don't know about the newer ones, but I had to drill two small passages to get the metered vacuum to work, it was real simple. ZS10 02-14-2007, 03:44:42 AM Proform mainbody is the best bang for buck bolt on part on my car. And the jets you get with the body, (72s) were as close to perfect as I could get. rscamaro73 02-14-2007, 05:20:26 AM Where are you guys getting these from ?? EDIT - ok, I checked Summit, AND I also went to proform's site. Now, what is confusing me...is that their main body is stated to replace a 650-750-800 cfm carb......then their base plate says the same thing.....now, I'm not a rocket scientist...but if it'll flow the highest numbers, and you put it together, won't it flow 800 cfm ? I'm not too fancy on the price considering what Patrick can do....and what he charges....but like....I hear the good stuff, but the 'generic appeal' of it doesn't turn me on the least bit.... Anyone got any suggestions/ comments ?? Mwilson 02-14-2007, 11:44:44 AM Where are you guys getting these from ?? EDIT - ok, I checked Summit, AND I also went to proform's site. Exactly....so lets say the main body flows up to that much....870.....but now we get to the base plate...which 'says' is a 650-750-800 piece. But like - if you put this 65-750-800 body that flows 870....on a base plate that flows 650-750-800 (who knows exactly what it flows?)....then its NOT going to flow '650'....ya see where I'm going with this ?? CorkyE 02-14-2007, 03:25:37 PM I put mine on a 750 base plate. Guys at Quick Fuel say it's going to flow about 780+ cfm. It took me a while to get it dialed in but I have since dropped the idea of switching to a mechanical secondary carb. This thing slap works great. I've also heard of issues with trying to put this Proform body on a 650 Holley. I think it was Marv who posted last summer about an issue where the metering blocks don't align correctly. May be he will chime in. Mwilson 02-14-2007, 03:37:37 PM I used thier billet base and main body 74RAT 02-14-2007, 05:00:27 PM the butterfly's and throttle bores/plates are the same diameter for the 650-800cfm and 830cfm sizes. 1 11/16". it's the milled choke horn (cast without and alot smoother airflow wise) with radius'd corners and entry,, that add the airflow. it is the same basic area arround the boosters as an 800 venturi. it's basically a modified 800 air entry. that's pretty much it,, besides easier air bleed tuning. difference in carb size cfm for the 650-830 is from the venturi area/diameter on those range carbs. base plates will interchange from like carbs such as v/s for v/s and d/p for d/p. it's said that you get about or as much as 50 cfm from cutting off/blending in the choke horn from a normal holley with choke tower,,,, then if you thin the throttle shafts you can get maybe another 20+ cfm,, then prepping the edges of the butterfly's another few. they sell thin throttle shafts now also,, but you can thin your own pretty easily. i did. shallow rounded butterfly screws give another few cfm also. http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3367537 here's my blend job. pretty straight forward if you have the time. the proform is a quick swap though. Mz28att 02-15-2007, 02:20:32 AM I like mine, but just a warning....The metering block vacuum port is not tapped. MaTt UncleZ 02-15-2007, 03:30:11 AM I have one and did not know about the metering block vacuum port being blocked. So, how exactly does this affect the performance of the carb? Mz28att 02-15-2007, 10:07:01 AM As far as I know, many guys pull their vacuum advance off of that port. MaTt |
