i have a 72 camaro and when i went to get into it today i just opend the door then all of a sudden the starter turned on all by itself i disconnected the battery cable and then connected it then it did it again so i tried again and it fianlly stopped...then i was driving it and it tried turning over AGAIN and i finally got it to stop by doing the same thing can anyone help me?????!!!!! what is my probelm!

could be a solenoid sticking problem,, or a starter trigger wire touching hot somewhere,, or maybe something related to the ignition switch under the dash on the column. hard to diagnose over the net. good starting points though.

If the car's name isn't Christine.... it was to be something in the ignition switch or wiring to the switch to engage the starter solenoid.

Take a look at the solenoid. The battery cable and the wire that activates the solenoid are pretty close. If something is bent or frayed, they 'could' be close enough to touch when the car is jiggled. Whatever, you need to get to the bottom of it before you drive anywhere obviously.

Now that would be cool...open the door and the car starts itself.

Ya know, they do have those remote starting systems. ;)
