Hi,
I recently found a new engine in a local yard like this : http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=NAL%2D12499529&autoview=sku
It's a crate 350 block (hecho en Mexico says in the heads).
My question is if I can put this block in a 92 Camaro Z28 with the TPI off of the stock engine. I don't know what are the differences between those blocks.
Anyone can help me?
Fran.

It would work ok, but you'll have to use your cylinder heads and this new engine does not have the roller cam, and I think it doesn't have provisions to use the roller cam. I'd look around for a new L98 short block. I've seen them somewhere, not a big price as I recall.

I wouldn't . Lots of stuff to change. Like tom3 said, heads for sure. Flywheel/flexplate front balancer. What you should have in your car is a a one peice rear main block with center bolt heads. This is the old style two piece rear main.

You might look into using a later model 350 Vortec short block. They've got the same 1 pc. rear main seal as your TPI engine (you can reuse your existing flexplate), uses the same oil pan, plus they're set up to take a factory-style roller cam like your TPI engine uses. And, of course, your TPI heads will bolt right on as well. In short, you can swap everything over from your old motor to the new one pretty easily in your garage in a weekend. The end result will be just about exactly the same motor as your original TPI 350.

The thing that'll give the Vortec block away is that composite front timing cover. If you're looking to do smog, and the smog guy is sharp, he may ding you on trying to run a block that was 4 years later than the last model year for TPI.

Yeah, that's a good point. And who wants a plastic timing cover anyway? i wonder if you couldn't use a steel cover on it (like reusing your old TPI cover). I think the only thing missing is the dowel pins to locate a traditional steel cover (not sure if the holes for those dowel pins are still drilled of if you'd have to add them).
I'm sure somebody could chime in about that.

Hey Fran, your location says Spain. Do they have smog testing in Spain and if so would the "smog guy" even know what he is looking for?

The real question is do you _need_ a new engine, and if so how hard or easy is it to get one in Spain? If you need one, and they are hard to come by, then I would have to say go for it. You _are_ going to have to swap some parts around to make it work, but you can do it. However if you can find a later 1 piece rear main seal block there is no use going to the extra effort.

Thaks a lot for the replys.
I bought the engine, here is very hard to find any V8 block, more when it is new. I ask here becouse a friend (not me) have a Z28, and he said me that if this block fit in his car he buy me it. I will say him all you say me here.
My plan for the block if he don't buy it perhaps will be to put it in a 79 Monte Carlo that actualy have a carburated 305.
