hey guys. well the 454 is at the shop but is supposed to be coming home this weekend. so i need to go out and get all the little things still.

1) I know that for belts and hoses i ask for them for a 70-72 with a 396. but what about spark plugs and oil filter, are those the same for the 396 or do i need certain ones for the 454?? so....which spark plugs(gap also) and which oil filter?

2) i am going to pick up some GM EOS, what oil do you guys recommend for break in to go along with that?

3) do i also just ask for a thermostat for the 70-72 396?

I'm sure I will think of some more stuff in the next couple days, so bear with me.......hopefully this engine will be in soon so I can be driving around again.

1)The spark plugs depend on the year of the engine and if it has gasketed plugs or tapered seat. The oil filter will be the same 350-396-454. What dist? plug gap hei .045 points .035.

2) Oil rotella 15-40 engine oil or brad penn 20/50 or 10/30 engine oil.

3) Thermostat 160 or 180 depending on what you engine is and the build it is. All small block and big block thermostats interchange.

heads are from a 366T, #14081052- these are from 85-87 and were originally on 366T, 427T, and 454T.
block is #361959. i looked this up and what i got is that the block is from 75-87. it is .030 over.

does that help with spark plugs? and the distributor is an HEI, but I will be using an MSD 6AL box.

In terms of build, its nothing extreme. edelbrock cam, lifters, intake, carb, stock type pistons(.030 over). does that help with the thermostat?

thanks for the help.
