I recently put swapped out main engine/front headlight wiring harnesses in my 1981 Camaro. I used a harness from a 1979 Camaro. Ever since I put it in, I have had no lights, no headlights, blinkers or dome light, and if my memory serves me correctly no tail lights either.

Did the light wiring change enough between 1979 to 1981 to have made a differnce, or do you think I might have other issues? I cleaned up the connectors for the headlights as they were very dirty, but they still do not work.

Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks!

i bought rolls of wire & conectors, yanked all my harnesses and used a wiring diagram and built new harnesses

everything worked great like new, I think there is a link on this site to wiring diagrams

You can probe the harness with a test light or just compare the positioning of the wires of the old and new firewall plug.

WHile we're on the subject - I have just installed new forward harnesses in my car. The wires are for the original coil/distributor setup, but the car has an Accel HEI distributor, Do I need to buy the conversion kit for that application, or can I just cut the resistor wire off and put a different terminal an the yellow? Thanks for your help

'78 to '81 is the same except for the CCC and distributor. http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/wiring.html

like rust said get a test light and see if your getting 12+ to the lights. dont forget there are at least 2 ground wires(i think 2) that need to be screwed to the core support. you could possible have 12+ to headlights and no ground...lights no workie.
