View Full Version : Oil Pressure Sender Clearance
jetmech_63 03-16-2005, 07:28:00 PM I KNOW someone has run into this. I just put on a Performer RPM manifold on my SBC and now my autometer oil pressure sender(electric) wont go in the hole. The obvious solution is mount it 90 degrees but i already have the manifold on, sealed and torqued. Does autometer sell a kit or does anyone have anything lying around that might help me. If i gotta take my manifold back off im gonna be one cranky gearhead!
angel71rs 03-16-2005, 09:27:00 PM In situations like this I've used a standoff (extension). It will have the proper 1/8 npt male on one end, female on the other. I've also used a short piece of 1/8 pipe with a 45 degree adapter at the top for sender clearnce. Go to your hardware store and see what they have. Take sender with you to make sure you get the right thread.

stratman315 03-16-2005, 10:37:00 PM You can also put a 1/8 pipe plug there and remove the plug on the block just above the oil filter and mount the sensor there. It picks up the same pressure at either location.

CorkyE 03-17-2005, 01:02:00 AM JetMec - you did try this with the distributor off, didn't you? I've got the rpm air-gap, and that big autometer sender. It's a close fit but mine went straight in, without the 045 adapter I had already went out and bought for that reason.

night rider 03-17-2005, 01:33:00 AM My elec. oil sender wouldnt fit w/o hitting the dist. so I made a trip to my local hardware store
I picked up a 1/8'' FPT 90* elbow, 1/8'' 1.5'' long nipple for under $2
The nipple is male threaded on both ends, the elbob is female threaded on both ends.
screw the nipple into the block, screw the elbow onto the nipple, then screw the sender into the elbow.
jetmech_63 03-17-2005, 01:54:00 AM The problem is with it hitting the manifold...not the distributor....however with my HEI it probably wont clear as well. I think i'll tap t from the side of the block, i forgot about that one.

so painfull.. i was looking for the same stuff + a t-piece so i could use the original pressure sender aswell (and keep the in dash warning light).
what do i find, i live on the wrong of the big puddle and everything is metric here and the cheapest i've find for that stuff with the right thread is over $50..
so it i'll have to wait till i make a trip to the US or Canada.. i live in the wrong place!!!! ahhh!!
anyway sorry for the rant.. what i'm trying to suggest is what night rider said but add a t-piece aswell so you can keep the original warning light in your gauge cluster..
