Holy Cow!
The SBC pump WILL work with BBC brackets...

Imagine that.

I'e been told that the AC compressor will work too. You just need the BBC brackets for that and you're good to go cold.

I'm detecting a trend here...

Wonder if the alternator would also interchange with the proper brackets?

I had a hard time figuring out how to mount the pump with the BB brackets
I had a 73 assembly manual(no BB in 73)
I had to buy a 72 manual
Best investment in BB conversion

Hey don't the starter, distributor, and motor mounts do that too? http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

By the way, badazz81z28 a factory BBC power steering pump, reservior, and brackets are EASY to come by in a Suburban.

You guys need to keep the smart azz comments to your self. I tried to mount the SBC pump. IT DIDN'T WORK!!
The lower bracket had NOTHING to mount to.
so get off my back!
I have the BBC brackets. I need the CORRECT pump so it all goes together the right way not the jimmy rig way.
I have already got a another pump so thats the end of this. -K-

I'm glad you found what you need.

I can absolutely see a pump potentially not working, hole not tapped, or something odd causing it not to work. It happens.

However I've done the conversion more times than I can count or care to remember and the SBC pump has ALWAYS worked for me. It has also worked for many others here.

You either have:
1. An oddball pump, which is always a possibility.
2. Incorrect bracket.
3.Operator Error.

With that being said,
a pump off almost any other SBC or BBC would work and been easy to go find a new or used one to check out.

So when you get it figured out, come back and tell us which of the above was the problem please.

Hey Jake,

I think some of the newer pumps are goofy myself. I have handled a few that had different mount configurations in the back (one had the stud on the bottom, one had it on the side in the back - about 1/2 way up).
I'm sure once he gets the right pieces he can piece it together (hope you got the spacer that goes on the inside of the bracket between it and the resevior body).

Also...as far as swapping goes - lets add the radiator shroud, fan, and clutch assembly (if so equipped).

Yup...some of us done did this as well and scavanged all the usable SBC pieces and forced them to the Dark Side http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

My BBC power steering pump and brackets are off a '80 pickup. I had the same setup in a '74 and '80 Camaro.

OK Mister I told you so,
You have an oddball reservoir...

I've personally used SBC pumps over 10 times without a problem, so yes they will USUALLY work.
You could drill a hole through your reservoir, and install the stud, and been done with it.

Both of your pics are of a GM Saginaw pump.... guess what, same pump. So the holes is drilled and tapped in the pump, you just have to be smart enough to drill one in the reservoir as necessary to install the stud...

It looks like from your pictures that your BB just about fits under a stock hood. How close is it and what intake and motor mounts are you using.

Your not a moron, just not very good at fabercation. I have a SBC pump with SBC brackets on my BBC and it looks factory, even showed you the pics. I guess if ya wanted to wait for ever to find all the right stuff it would make the install easier, but I don't have a lot of patience or money.

454 with SBC frame and engine mounts (stock for 73). With that carb, a drop base and a regular 3" filter it was too tall (I dunno how others get theirs to fit with an intake like this). I went with a 4" cowl hood to fix it though....

Yup..a goofy late model one. I have on in my basement just like that. Guess in the later years since they didn't have as many BBC's out they took the stud off....which is what I imagined....and bad ended up with one.

Oh well....its done - he got a good one. Now lets get that spinning....

So with the 3" filter how close was it to fitting under the stock hood.

I had it w/o hinges and the back of the hood stuck up over an inch. That was w/o the lid.

You know....Ihave my hood unbolted right now....so maybe I'll experiment. I have a 78Z hood I can play with.....
