My buddy has a stock Caddy 500 in his '75 deVille. It runs pretty well, but could use a good tune up. Most of it I'm sure I can handle, but I was wondering what sort of timing would work well on it. Would it be similar to my 350 or not? He likes to drive fast, gas mileage is not an issue. We're going to change plugs, rotor, cap, wires, then set the initial timing. After that, we're planning on a carb rebuild.
Thanks

I'd go stock AND leave the big Mother completely alone b/c it's gonna be all over at 35 to 38, maybe 4,000 rpm anyway!!
AND it's a GREAT engine to hop up, imho...............................
I'd love ta have one on an engine stand!!!!!

Sounds like you have the tune up under control. While youre at it, check the valves for loose rockers and make sure they have the correct lash. Also, try to de-carbonize the chambers.

Change the PCV valve, PCV breather filter, and engine air filter while you are at it... all cheap parts, but all parts of a full tune up too.

On a 73 caddy 500 timing is 8* BTDC @ 600 rpm is what my book shows.Sorry it does not go to 75 but maybe the same.

I don't think there was a 500" caddy in '73? Those started in '75 IIRC. '73 would be a 472".

There were 500s in 73.. I remember them going back to 70 at least.

My motors manual shows 70-73 w/500 and 472, 67 w/ 429 and 68-69 472 only motors avaible.This book covers 67-73 and bought in 73.
