I am installing an 8" Pioneer street damper on mine and I plan to use the factory pointer. I don't see why that wouldn't work on yours. Since TDC is the fixed reference point, as long as the two line up, it should work.

mine is off by 2 degrees. it is just easier to read with a pointer, since the balancer is marked with 60 degrees

1981z...
My cheap chrome Mr. Gasket tab was off by 4*.. I used a degreed damper like you and what I done was just cut the tab into a pointer..

Got my engine to true TDC. Held a steel rule on the 0* line of damper, and made a mark on my timing tab that lined up with that.. Then cut the tab with a 3" cut off wheel so it looked like a "V" with the very tip point being the mark I made on it that lines up with the 0*/TDC mark on my damper

Sorry to hijack your thread, but want to make sure this pointer will work. I bought this: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2D163600&autoview=sku
I have a stock 8" damper, and a stock timing cover. Thanks!

Do you have a fluidampr? Says "For use with Fluidampr balancer only."

no i do not. the one i actually have is an engine works that looks the same. i was told by the speed shop that it will work with all 8 inch balancers. but it does not with mine. i will talk with my machinist tomorrow since he first showed me one that he used and i think it will work for me.
