From my prior post about me playing engine tag with a junk yard. Well for you guys not for sure with the topic I bought a 4 bolt 350 and recived a 4 bolt 350 tore it down and found out the block was toast. The they replaced it with another "4 bolt" which happened to be a 2 bolt casue i'm a idiot and took his word for it. It took them a month to dig up this "4 bolt" so i said screw and just was going to use the two bolt and get it splayed since the engine itself was cheap compared to everyone else, until the machine called told me my block is junk and i owe them 50 buxs for the hot dip!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR..........so now the hillbillies are giving my third engine which will be a true 4 bolt since they don't belive in refunds casue i would much rather buy my stuff from someone who knows whats going on...............sorry about the rant....

Man that sucks. I assume the first two blocks were cracked? I hope you get an engine that works for you. Have you asked your local machine shop if they have any cores?

ya i did but it'll cost alot more dough casue they just sell bare blocks that already honed and cleaned for $300+ and you have to buy the crank separatly and in this instance the block i had was an 1988 and the crank was 200 buxs. when i could ge the entire engine from the salvage yard 250 with everything i even got a starter with the first one.

$300 for a block ready to go and checked out GOOD isn't a bad deal. I can't believe you are finding all these cracked 350's!

sorry to hear about your luck...
$300 for a ready to build block is a good price.
If you really look at it, most of us don't use the stock pistons, heads, intake, water pump, etc that the junkyard cores come with.
Then if you keep the stock crank, about 75% of the timing it needs turning, thats close to $100.
Stock rods are good, but rod bolts aint, so ARP bolts, and have them installed and big ends resized. There's $80
Then you get into the block & machining. $50-350 for a core engine, $40-50 to clean, 80-100 tp bore, 30-40 to install cam bearings and frezze plugs

ya i'm prob going to buy a block from them as my weekend tuner. And i'm going to use this junk yard special if i ever find a good one to get the beast moving. But you guys are right the machine shop block is the better deal. And if you guys were wondering the first block i tore down had a sizable chunk missing out of the top of one of the cylinders and had a very very deep gouge in another that prob would have been cracked. And the second block that i took to the machine shop had about a three inch crack horizonally above the drivers side lifter holes.

I spent close to 700 for my short block. had the block cleaned up didn't need to bore so i left it alone. since i got my piston and rods from a guy that had already put arp bolts and shot peened them, i traded him for a block i had in the corner(350 4 bolt I got afew i keep). got the 350 scat crankshaft, i pre set all of the stuff to make sure clearance is on the money and sent the rotating assembly to the machine shop to have balanced.
One of these days it will run.
