View Full Version : engine to the shop!
al5570 02-01-2007, 05:03:58 PM and im actually excited. i finally got all the parts i needed for my 454, got it painted, and dropped it off today. should be back as one piece in a couple of days, instead of a bunch of boxes. the shop was actually pretty cool, they have a showroom and had a first gen convertible that was gorgeous. then in the shop they had a 81 z28 and a 71 up on lifts getting worked on. the guy who will be assembling my motor actually has owned a couple first and second gen camaros, so he got excited to know its going in my 79. i have to admit though, the garage looks pretty empty without all the junk piled up.
EricsZ28 02-02-2007, 08:53:45 AM How long did he say it would take? I can hardly wait to get my new engine & trans in my Z. The garage will feel HUGE without all those boxes everywhere...
al5570 02-02-2007, 09:10:33 AM they siad it would only take about 2-3 days to get her all together. i am damn excited to get this thing together, its been a bunch of pieces in my garage and basement for the last couple months. but of course it will probably sit ofr a little while until im ready to do the motor swap, but at least it will actually be an engine. bigmouse, what are you putting in your car?
Breese 02-02-2007, 03:17:28 PM Who is dong your work for you? Wise? They're good, use to build a few NHRA Super/Stock Camaros. They ran good in a HARD class...Keep us up..
Bruce Sherman 02-02-2007, 03:57:30 PM Just make sure that they put the parts you give them into your engine. I have heard and seen many people who have got shafted when having their engine assembled by a "shop". Best thing to do is to be there and watch (if they have a problem with you watching don't use that shop) If you schedule dosn't allow check before you install it.
Best of luck.
1981z28owner 02-02-2007, 07:44:49 PM good luck, trying to get mine together. i cant go a day without something not working. my newest episode is teh timing pointer wont work with my balancer.
al5570 02-02-2007, 08:15:27 PM hey, the shop im using is the southside city speed shop. they seem really good, and the guy thats going to build it is a big camaro guy, so he seemed pretty excited about the motor. plus i printed out a list that had ALL the parts, part numbers, and everything along wtih my parts. so im just going to keep my fingers crossed that they put in there what i gave them.

EricsZ28 02-05-2007, 08:45:32 AM .. bigmouse, what are you putting in your car?
Well, what started out as a quick "freshening up" of my old 400 turned into a new 383/5 speed build. Funny how that works.
Now I just need to finish cleaning, preping, & painting the front subframe/firewall/radiator support/inner fenders :whine: This is the part that I get impatient with. The prep work makes for good cold-weather projects though...
Please post pics when you get you car back!
al5570 02-09-2007, 07:31:32 PM well i called the shop today since i hadnt heard from them. they said they started messing with it today, but will actually start putting it together on monday and it will be done next friday. im a little ticked off right now. originally when i called they said it would take 2 or 3 days, now if its done next friday, thats two and a half weeks. im not in a rush, i cant put it in until spring break in march, but its definitely taking longer than it should(they said their part washer or something broke and finally got fixed). they are always real nice, but id like it to be in my garage. plus i have a test next saturday, and my buddy with a truck will be out of town next weekend, so hopefully i can ask another friend to help me out, thats why i was hoping it would be done this weekend. hopefully ill have some pix up next weekend.
