This is on my 79 inline 6. I had a quadrajet on it with no problems except for idling in drive. So i went ahead and replaced it with a remanufactured one. I backed off of the mixture screws until it idles in drive which is about 500 hundred. Idles great in both drive and park now. My problem is that when i just road tested it up the road, it doesn't have nearly as much power as it used too. It kind of lagging but its not stuttering at all. Just taking longer then usual to reach the higher rpms.
Anyone have any ideas?

Off the top of my head I would say perhaps your jetting with the new carb is different from the previous one, time for some tuning. Check your timing as well, and look for vacuum leaks.

Oh, and make sure full throttle at the pedal is full throttle on the carb.

Timing is good and no vacuum leaks. Checked throttle and its opening all the way. Did another drive and noticed that if punch it and the tranny kicks down, it will do a little backfire out of the carb and then keep on going.

May be the hanger and secondary rods, i bought a reman Q-jet years ago at Auto Zone bolted it on and my car went from 9.50 1/8 mile to 10.20! I drove all the way home swapped rods and hanger went back before elliminations squeezed in one time run 9.50!

well, changed the rods which i guess were the secondaries. Watever ones that are on top. It made it worst, it was constantly backfiring through carb any time i accelerated. So i put the old ones back in again. It revs great in park, but as soon as your driving its lagging. Is there a tutorial anywhere on how i go about changing the jets??

Did you change the hanger too? Did the rods look different at the tips? I dont believe there are any secondary jets just rods with different diameter tips that go down into holes. The smaller the tips more gas to the motor if it was backfiring through the carb its sounds like its not getting gas when you open it at WOT does the hanger lift the rods correctly?

yep, tried both hangers too the did look different but cant remember how different anymore. Doing this in 30 degree weather is not helping at all. Im betting it is the jets because the carb was ordered and set for a 72 camaro 350. And its goin on a slightly modified inline 6. The old quadrajet was taken off of a 77 firebird 350 and ran without a problem as far as accelerating. I think im going to swap the jets from the other carb but this is my first time digging that deep into it. So im trying to find a good site with a how-to about doing it.
thanx for the help so far
