Man it has been about 4 years since I have put together a motor but I didnt think the prices went up that much? I guess maybe because my buddy used to own the machine shop that was down the street from the current one, but he went out of business (my buddy, well he actually opened a scooter shop believe it or not). Anyway.

Dropped my 454 crank off today. Here is the prices:

mag $45.00
shot peen $35.00 (want all the surface rust off of it)
polish $45.00 IF they can get it to clean up nice if not then have to cut it 10 under.

Total of $125.00

I used to get this done for about $80.00

Hate to see when I have them prep the block....geez.

just on a crank? that sounds a wee bit high. Where I work it would probably run about 100. That price isnt crazy though.

Yeah I guess I am just pissing and moaning about it but I find that this place (nastyz28) is a good place to piss and moan because people actually know where I am coming from.

Thanks.

I don't think it is too bad I have found cheaper places but again you get what you pay for.

Polishing a crank should be less than $45...

It costs $20 here at a racing machine shop...

That's expensive to mag too, BUT if they are doing it right they will also "demag" it to take any magnetization out.

That's high to clean it too, they likely aren't "shot-peening" but are shot-blasting and I had a pair of heads done for $20 about a week ago...

Wet mag it and have it turned. Chances are after it's shot peened, it'll need to be turned anyway, why waste the money?

They said they are going to mask the journals then shot peen it...
