Hello everybody, I am new to this group and need some help. I am doing the LT4 conversion on my wifes 94 Z-28. The 350 in my 72 RS has crappy 882 heads. Does anybody know if 1994 LT1 heads will fit a 1972 block? If so would any special valvetrain components be required? Reverse flow water pump? Piston to Valve clearance issues? If anybody has any answers or input I would really appreciate hearing them. Thanks.

The LT1/LT4 heads are absolutely NOT compatible with older blocks.

They are but you have to modify them abit

If you don't want to the whole LT1 intake EFI conversion your best bet is to go with vortec heads. Vortecs are based off of the LT1 heads but are made to be used on older blocks without the reverse cooling.

For some its very worth doing, if you can weld up the holes in the deck yourself or have someone do it cheap, they make cheap nice flowing aluminum heads, and the small chambers can come in very handy.

Is that all that needs to be done, just fill the coolant passages with aluminum?

From the look of it you need to do fill those two holes, drill a hole in the top of the water jacket for a coolant line (both heads) and use an LT1 intake.

Aside from the deck holes, some standard sbc intakes can be adapter, the coolant hoses can be run from the front and rear of the heads into the water crossover on the intake. Or the holes on the front of the heads can be enlarged and just two short hoses used

If I were you I would sell the LT1 Heads on Ebay etc and buy better flowing heads for your small block. Save you the headach and a chance messing the heads up

Seems like a lot of trouble just for a set of heads. There are many new GM heads out there that will perform well.
