3 should = GM division (1 is chevy, 2 is Pontiac...3 = ?? Olds? Buick?)
3 should = the year (in this case '73)
M should = the assembly palnt (M is not a Chevy plant to my knowledge)
255066 should = sequential portion of VIN

One you know the division you should be able to narrow down whihc cars in its line were available with Muncies

Hope it helps

1973 oldsmobile, built in Lansing Michigan. A cutlass most likely.

Are there any difference's that I should be concerned with putting it in my 73 Camaro

The key is in the tail shaft. I believe the chevelle and the camaro use the same basic tail shaft. And the cutlass should use the same tail shaft as the chevelle. So the transmission should work.

If you buy a shifter for a 197x camaro with a muncie trans, the shifter and rods are going to expect things to be in certain spots. Make sure your shifter linkages will connect to the transmission before you put it in.

Thanks
I've been researching it and have not found any differences
All the 70-74 tails are the same

The trany came with a shifter
I'm going to assume it came from the cutlass
I can only find " ITM " on it
Is there a hiden place were they put a part #
And do you know what it should be
I checked the reverse shifter lever because of the back drive and it wasn't correct for camaro

I think ITM's were in Camaros starting in '72. '73 for sure.

There's 2 issues in a situation like this:

#1: The shifter has to fit the transmission.
#2: The shifter handle has to fit the car.

Sometimes you buy a shifter for a Camaro (cause that's what you have) and the shifter rods don't fit right... cause the transmission is from a dump truck or something like that. Or you use the shifter from the cutlass and the shifter handle is no where close to coming through the hole in the floor of your car. So you'd simply need to replace the handle (good luck) for a camaro in that case.

Thanks Mike

The trany is the same as what came in the Camaro's
I cross checked all the part #'s

The person I got the trany from said that it was in a camaro with a console
The shifter stick is non-detachable from the shifter.
I need to check it against the 3 speed shifter thats in the car now.
I know the reverse lever on the trany now is wrong for the back-drive.

Do you have any advice on were I can find a tail extension and the reverse lever.
Not having any luck on the swap meet section.

The shifter tower has to fit. Example:Hursts towers for 2 gens with consoles the stick mount has a L looking bracket welded on it to move the stick over.
