78 camaro, 350 stock, q-jet with manual choke, been eating spark plugs, no oil fouled out plugs, tried Delco 44's and 45's , still get a few burned out. running alumicoat headers. new wires also

could header heat be doing it, or the choke maybe ?

im a little stumped. wil supply more info if needed..thanks !!!

Common sign of detonation. Do any of the plugs appear to have aluminum embedded in the electrode?

plugs are gapped correctly........no signs of any foreign debris between the gap........I originally thought the choke was fouling them out, but didnt think it would pertain to just the same plugs everytime. or could it?

thanks again for the help,
Rich

By eating the plugs do you mean they are being fouled or melting or ?? From your first post I was under the asumption that the plugs where deteriorating/melting which is a common sign of detonation. If they are just fouling then yeah your choke could be the cause as could an out of tune carb.

what plugs are fouled out? it could have something to do with an out of tune carb if they are fouled and not melted and broke. are they jsut black and nast lookin' or is there actually parts on the plug missing?

the plugs are just carbon fouled no visable damage.
may be the carb, that would be my duess at this point

anyone know a good aftermarket carb to buy with an electric choke ?

thanks !

Sounds like time for a rebuild on the Q-jet... its a great carb, don't junk it yet. Buy a rebuild kit from any auto parts store and spend a quality afternoon with it and a can of carb cleaner. Maybe a new choke coil or assembly is required if thats the suspect at this point. Use loctite on the threads of the screws when puttin it back together (they like to loosen up over time and cause vac leaks).
