Anyone got any tips on how to correctly set the electric choke for a Holley Street Avenger carb? I know if it's not set correctly it won't allow the secondaries to open on, and we don't want that to happen.

Thanks - Shane

Topic: Choke Setting Procedures

1) Wrap hands around neck

2) Squeeze really, really tight

3) When fingers turn red then white, the setting is considered 'full on'. Adjust as necessary.

Most carb books I've seen say to set the choke so it just fully closes easily on a 70 degree day with a warm engine.

So just wait till spring when you have a 70* day!

As long as the choke reaches wide open in about 5 minutes of running you're close enough for government work.

I set the choke on my q-jet with a bit of trial and error.
If the engine is partway warmed up and starts trying to die in gear, you need to move the choke to the 'rich' side to keep it on longer. If it feels like the choke is still on when the engine is plenty warm, move it to the lean side.
Then just fiddle with the fast idle screw when you first start the motor. Adjust the idle in gear to a nice level when the motor is cold and the choke is fully on and you're good to go.
