Just a quik one for anyone that knows. What mods need to be done to the main(s) of a 350 for a stroker crank? Can a bigger stroke be used ie..,3.80 -4.00?

They are getting cheap now, you will probably spend more money on the 350 crank machine work. Also, will the offset grinding you would have to do, it would jeapordize the structure of the crank. EricsZ28 01-25-2007, 09:02:47 AM +1. Buy a stroker crank. They are not expensive. They come with the correct main journal sizes to fit a 350 & they have the longer stroke. You can choose internal or external balance. It's pretty easy these days. You don't need to do anything to the mains of the 350 block - as long as they are straight. You will need to have the block clearanced for the rotating assembly. You may have to clearance the rods/rod bolts to clear the camshaft (or run a small base circle cam). Marv D 01-25-2007, 02:44:09 PM I have seen one 3.875" stroke in a 350 block (a sbc 396) but it went south about mid season. 4" stroke may be possible in an aftermarket block, but I highly doubt it will work in a production casting. And if your going to an aftermarket block,,,, might as well do it right and make it a 4.155 bore. pdq67 01-25-2007, 03:53:44 PM Heck, GM even sell's a 3.8" stroked crank that goes in their new 383HT engine!! But I figure it is a one-piece seal jobber?? And up to a 3.875" stroked crank works pretty slick b/c longer than that, like the 4.0" jobber and it get's really tight in there if you are using a stock block.. Imho... A 4.03" b x 3.875" s = 395.4" engine!! pdq67 Marv D 01-25-2007, 04:20:07 PM Heck, GM even sell's a 3.8" stroked crank that goes in their new 383HT engine!! So go figure and the 302 is actually a 301.6" engine......... And Pontiac called their 1963 326" engine that was actually a 336" one, 326's and then ended up making it a legit 326" later... pdq67 |
