"I use an old dist. shaft with the gears ground off"....

It's best to use one like he said b/c the dizzy seals off down in there so's more of the engine pressures up if not mistaken..

True ^. But its pretty easy to spring for a proper $20 tool (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2D901010&autoview=sku) too.

toomany,, are you putting this engine in a 4th gen where the engine is way back under the firewall cowl?? just guessing here. that could be a tough one. i've turned down the top of the distributor shaft before,, and ran a die down the top,, made it 3/8" thread and double nutted it. then i could use a speed handle on it with a ball type universal joint with extensions and sockets.......... worked like a champ. took a 2nd person to hold it at the joint though. then i could remove the nuts and use it normally when needed in a drill. guess you could weld a nut on top.

the ball type universal joint is a must for everyone's tool box. doesn't bind up or jump off when used at angles. hope it helps.

i use a 1/2" air drill with no problems there. mine's a 74,, but should be the same firewall. have to sometimes put the dizzy primer in the block first,, then attach the drill chuck. should work no problems if you can find an air drill. hope it helps.

i used a 1/2" makitia drill with no problem, in the car.

i just put the old distributor housing in place, then took the distributor rod with the gear and the diamond plate removed, and put the rod in the drill and put it down til it seat on the oil pump, and start turning, and watch the oil guage kick up to 60!!

mine was getting 60psi at start up and 55 at operating temp.
