Since I have a stock bore #014 GM 2 bolt main block waiting to be built, I've finally came up with a combo for it. I'm going to stud the bottom end w/ ARP studs. How much HP will it take? Hopefully it will hold up.
Here's the combo:
Eagle Street rotating assembly w/ cast crank 3.75" stroke, hyper. pistons flat tops .040" over, 5.7" rods, Clevite 77 bearings
Moroso Oiling System
Cloyes True Roller chain
Comp Cam 304HR Kit 244/244 @ .050 .600"/.600" lift
AFR 210 Race heads 65cc chambers
Harland Sharp Roller Rockers
RPM Air-Gap intake
750 Holley DP
Fel-Pro gaskets
I'm going for a 10.95:1 Static CR which should be a 8.9:1 Dynamic CR
I know I'm really pushing it with the rotating assembly. Comments are welcomed.:bowtie:

I don't think your pushing the rotating mass - as long as you dont hit it with the giggle juice. You could probably step up to a Team-G or Victor intake though if you stay with that cam/head combo. You'll be on the edge of that 4000 converter... :)

I would never build a 383 combination with a 2 bolt block that's going to see some RPM and make decent HP, esp with an 11:1 setup that presumably needs to run pump gasoline and may see detonation. That goes double for an externally balanced setup. Find a 4 bolt block, you're engine is worth too much to risk it.

I am with Rustbucket on this as far as a 2 bolt main being used in this application as we get 3 or 4 of these type engines a year that guys have tried to run a 2 bolt block where a good 4 bolt should be used.
The engines were taken apart do to falling oil pressure and after seeing where the caps were moving in the registers the bearings had a lot of uneven wear causing the pressure problem. From what we have seen studs really don't seem to help and they don't really make the caps any stronger as they are only a grey cast iron cap. Its like putting new rod bolts in a set of rods it doesn't make the rods any stronger just stronger bolts.
A good set of splayed center caps would be good and before this is done have the cylinder sonic tested to make sure you have a good peice to start with.
Remember more stroke means more side loading of the main caps and 2 bolt caps will move in there narrow registers.
Your set up looks like it has good potential. GOOD LUCK with your build. Carl

This is what a like about this forum, great input where it is needed. So, from what's been said I should look at getting a new GM 4 bolt main block. Thanks for all the helpful information everyone. I hope to get started soon on this build and see what it does on the dyno.
