We have a slide hammer/collet setup for those, not much else will get them out unless you get lucky and they're not very tight.

Vice grips?

worked for me in the past. Clamp em on goodandtight and get em to twist. they will come out. may no longer be usable, but they are cheap enough.

Freeze plugs out?
Beat them through, They are a press fit.
They can then be cleaned and reinstalled.

a claw hammer like removing a nail,, hit it hard enough to where you think you're going to break off the nail ear puller ,,,,,,to wedge it on the dowel pin,,,,then hit the hammer head and rock/roll it out!! when we got out here to stockton,, we kept finding these carpenter's hammers with one ear!!!! figured that's what broke them off. got a collet style since then,,, but in a pinch the hammer puller works well. hope it helps. can clean up the notch burrs after and then put them in upside down for reinstall.

you are talking about the sbc head dowels,, right???

+1 Cheap to replace and shouldn't be too difficult to get them out.

My question is WHY????????
If it's going to the machine shop it's their issue to deal with. If you going to studs, then true you don't need them. But otherwise your going to be driving them right back in. Why stress the deck of pulling them and driving them back in if you don't have to?????
