I bought a '79 Z with no engine and now I'm trying to piece pullies and alternators and water pumps and balancers and power steering pumps and everything else to put this thing on the road and not one pully lines up as now. I also need all the AC gear after the suitcase including the brackets. There is a '79 Impala at the wrecking yard that has everthing still on it. Currently I have a chrome long pump and alternator bracket in the '79 Camaro, is the '79 Impala a short pump and do I need to take everything, including the water pump and balancer to make this work? At one time I thought all small block chevys were long pump after '69 but I heard this is not correct. Also, this puts the AC pump on the drivers side, is this correct, at this point it probably does not matter if it will work? I've got a few pullies and other parts but nothing seems to line up. I've already pulled the power steering pump off of another '78 Impala. What do you think?

Most everything after about 68-69 is long style water pump except maybe a few oddballs like Corvettes and such. 79 Imp is definitely long style, just like my 78 and 79 Malibus are/were. If you've got access to the complete accessory setup then I'd use it. Easier than doing it a piece at a time. At least you know everything was working together at one point.

Just pulled everything I could think of on the '79 Impala and the brackets I got off the '78 and the power steering unit, they are not the same. It is amazing how many different things it takes to set this motor up and I can see already that I'll be making/modify some brackets. That's ok with me, I like to modify things and make them work. Beats sanding on a car or buffing it or doing standard maintenance.
