The oil light in my 80 z is lit up and I'm not sure why. My first thought was to check the oil but it's at the correct level. I'm sure the reason is staring me in the face but I still don't know what it is..

Thanks

Check the sending unit, they are not expensive and fairly easy to replace. If the light stays on, then you may have a pump problem.

There are only two reasons the light would be on.
#1: no signal from the sender (bad sender, wire fell off, etc)
#2: no oil pressure (just hope it's #1)

Did you recently drive the car in the rain or wash the engine bay? I washed my engine once and the oil light came on. I unplugged the sending unit and simply plugged it back in and the light went off. I assumed a little water "somehow" got trapped in the connection somewhere.

If your choke wire burned up, it will throw a false oil warning. The same circuit, it the fuse is blown, will activate the warning.
