Okay... My dilemma.. Hopefully you guys can help me..
I bought my car from original owner.. and he said he was driving and Car apparently shut off..
He thinks it's the Timing chain because there's fuel and spark.. Should run right..

Well I changed the fuel pump..fuel filter..plugs..and I'm thinking could it be possible that chain skipped a tooth... It now starts but I have to keep my foot in it or it dies.. seems like it won't take idle.. Now my mechanic friends are telling me it's the carb and the primarys are suspect..

I feel sort of dumb.. please be easy on me guys..

What else should I check..
Thank's all http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

Go buy the new issue of Chevy High Performance. It has a good article "What to do When your Engine Quits".
My camaro was being stubborn all week (old dirty carb). Someone recomended the magazine and problem solved.
Try working the carb throttle manually to get some gas in there and then try starting. Also, I spent $1.00 on some carb cleaner, opened the carb full bore (engine running) and doused it. I think it liked it! Runs much better.

So use a ton of carb cleaner? I'll try anything.
I might just yank the carb and dunk it or rebuild it... I have a week or two to kill! LOL http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm sure tearing down the carb wont hurt. I need to do the same. I think you can get rebuild kits pretty easy. (You can definitely save some bucks on ebay.) My car was doing exactly what yours was. Starting (reluctantly) and dying at idle. I'm no expert at carbs but in addition to cleaning, my idle needs to be adjusted. You may want to toy with the idle screw and see what works for you.
If Ive learned anything working on my car, it is to try the obvious stuff first (ground wires, fuel in tank, fuses, etc.) before tearing into the more detailed parts of troubleshooting. As the article in Chevy High Performance says: "Your problems is most likely related to the last thing you did to the car. No matter how remote from the symptom."
I replaced my starter and tore apart my HEI system (and bought a bunch of tools) before I decided to work the carb manually!
Good luck. Let us know what you find.

It runs!!!.. It has life.. Timinig was good. fuel supply good.
Turned out to be an electronic module inside the Distributor in which it was restricting voltage... The funny thing is the plugs were sparking but apparently with not enough juice! So this module turned out to be the culprit. The one I had was fried and was too high on resistance therefore resticiting voltage output.

Thank you "efinger" for your input. It was helpful, and I'm still rebuilding this carb!! LOL http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif
