As far as I can tell,
my engine: ID code# V0802HC is a 350 from 1969. (Or a 327 from earlier)
(I cant read the vin code or the cast block date code)
It has HEI---is this possible?
Can you retro-fit HEI into these older blocks?

Retrofitting an HEI is easy and is quite commonly seen.
The Reader's Digest version:
- pull the old distributor and coil
- drop in HEI & install new spark plug wires
- regap plugs to .045
- get an ignition switched 12 volts to the HEI. Don't use the coil wire from the old points setup, this only provides 5 or 6 volts.
- throw all the points stuff in a box in case you ever sell the car to an "originality guy". If you sell the car to me then throw the box away (or put on ebay).

Mike is right. It's a very common thing to do.
The dist it self is a drop in replace ment. No diff between the points and HEI
Just the HEI, uses diff plug wires, needs 12 volts at all times, and plug gap needs to be bigger
My engine is a 71 (points) and I have an HEI in it, my dad's is a 69 327 and has an HEI in it
