When I began cleaning and running a die over the head bolts I noticed a white substance on the threads. Appears to be some sort of lube (white lithium?) or sealant. It did come off when I ran the die down the threads, but was wondering what it might be. These are good ARP's. Years back we just cleaned the bolts and ran them back in with no problems, but are they now using something on the threads when installing the heads?

Also, to clean off gaskets from, say the oil pan, is there a bit I can use on a die grinder or on my dremel instead of a wirewheel on the drill to clean off the gasket residue that a scraper can't get?

Thanks

It is probably a sealent since your head bolts go into the water jackets, it could also be corrosion from the water jacket.

2nd Question yes they make gaskety removal discs that can run off a drill or die grinder, they sell them at some auto parts stores, harbor frieght....
