i took all of the bolts out and i still cant get them off... is their something else holding them on? i took out 8 bolts under the valve cover and 8 on each side of the block by the spark plug holes. did i miss any thing? any tips on geting heads off that have been there for 25 years?

Small block chevy has 17 bolts per head.
Eight bolts below the exhaust ports - short.
Under the valve cover -- Two (one at each end of the head near the oil drain back holes - medium). Four (one between each pair if rocker arms - long. Three (between each cylinder - long).

That'd be the problem; you still have one bolt in each side.

It's in the back corner under a puddle of oil toward the exhaust side.

You know if you do have all the bolts out it might just need a little tap with a rubber mallet. When I took my heads off my old 305 thats what I had to do. They just didnt freely come off with no effort. Keep in mind though my engine had a billion miles on it. A fresh engine it might just come right off
