View Full Version : Rare 78 Z !!!
highspeed 07-08-2005, 02:00:00 PM Have only owned this car for about 5 wks and have been going through all the paperwork and documentation. Well, I started to study the build sheet a little closer and compared some of the options to the production numbers on this website. NO LIE, this car has the "BS1 insul pkg" option. One list has this option as only 7 ordered, another don't even have a number there. I'm in shock!
The only other thing about this car that was a little different was that it had the "BW1 del d/lid emb" option. Is this very rare?
I am thinking now that I should put this car back to as original as I can if only 1 of 7.
How much value does this add to the car? Only 10,000 miles but not original engine.
WildBillyT 07-08-2005, 02:11:00 PM That's hard to tell. Typically rare does not equal desireable but your car seems very clean and original as it is.
What happened to the original motor?

highspeed 07-08-2005, 02:43:00 PM Motor was replaced at 3,000 mi with an L82 but I will try even harder to locate original now. I'm not even sure what this option was. Is there some kind of insulation in the headliner or what??
3origZlovers 07-08-2005, 11:23:00 PM Note to WildBillyT. Like your wheels, what are they?
Adam G 07-09-2005, 11:25:00 AM Highspeed,
I believe the option you're refering to was the "Acoustical Insulation Package". Which I'm assuming included addtional insulation in the interior for exterior sound control. By the way, check out the pictures of my '77. Same look, different year.
highspeed 07-09-2005, 07:42:00 PM Nice ride, I like!!
Does someone know anything about this insulation and were it is etc? I realize this is kind of a "so what" option but being only 1 of 7 (and possibly the only one left)wouldn't this increase the value of the car a little??
Petes 81Z 07-10-2005, 09:12:00 AM Man, I really like that. Sharp looking! Make sure to hold onto that build sheet, maybe make a photocopy or 2 of it, in case the original fades beyond readable. As said before, rare doesn't neccesarily mean desireable, whether it's desireable or not, it's still cool.
Gary S 07-10-2005, 09:49:00 AM The option lists are difficult to translate after all these years. I see that BS1 is listed without any production numbers here on Madmike's site. My own list doesn't list it at all. That tells me that BS1 was not a separate orderable RPO. It was included as a part of some other package. That means that it isn't rare at all, just not available separately. You can almost bet that it was included in RPO Z54 which was the Interior Decor/Quiet Sound group. Z54. Z54 was a standard part of every LT Camaro built in 1978, and every Z28 with Custom trim. In addition to that, 32,000 other Camaros got it. Add those numbers, and it means that about 1/2 the 1978 Camaros have it. The build sheet will show these hidden options even though they couldn't be ordered separately. If your Z28 has custom interior, or Z54, it will have it just like every other one with these options.
highspeed 07-10-2005, 12:52:00 PM To Pete, thanks for the compliments.
To Gary, I was just going by Stegmillers option list below which says RPO Z54 32,099 and RPO BS1 7. Maybe a mistake I don't know! Anyone else have the Z54 on their build sheet and the BS1 also? Thanks, Bob
