I want to do a new exhaust for my 70 camaro, it has a 350. I am thinking about going with shorty hedman headers and a flowmaster exhaust. I was thinking one of the kits from summit, either the 50 series dual mufflers, or the 80series transverse muffler, has anyone used either of these, how is the sound, etc? I am thinking that with clearance it might be good to go with the transverse mounted muffler. Also, is the kit supposed to be welded together? I haven't done much exhaust work, except change headers and stuff. THanks for the replies.

we just had a discussion on this a few weeks ago, if you do a search, it should still be there.

I have the transverse muff kit, 79104 I think is the part #. The ground clearance is fantastic. The lowest part of the system is the header collector flanges (I have full length headers). It sound pretty good, quiet at idle. But when you open it up, sould killer. One thing that annoys me is that the muffler can be in the way of doing work on the rear end. Also, the heat shield on the muffler (mine at least) vibrated at idle rpms, and drives me crazy. All the tack welds are intact, it;s just the shield itself. I guess my engine gives off a certain frequency at about 800rpm or so, that makes the shield vibrate. ALSO, at those low idle RPMs, it resonates inside the rear pass compartment, a little annoying.

The system doesn't HAVE to be welded. It's a slip fit piping system, it comes with clamps. But welding it is better...

I was actually thinking of chopping it and adding a pair of 50 series to it instead...or I may go wild and do 40's... This kit sounds similar to the 50 series Delta Flow on the Flowmaster website.

I have some sound clips and vid clips I can try to email you if interested...

I am running shorty headers and the flowmaster transvers muffler. Search the BS room for my day at the track thread with video. Should be within the last few days.

I have the old style 2 chambers (nice and loud) and 2-1/2 Flowmaster pipes. Very quality system! You may also look into http://www.casspypes.com The owner is a member here and they sell all kinds of good stuff, even X pipes, which you should consider if funds allow. Every little thing you can do for power from the exhaust, you may as well do now.
