Ok, im woundering what would cause my car to pop out of the exhaust when I rev it up quickly to say about 4 grand and then let out of the gas quickly. It pops about 3 or 4 times till it idles back down. It is not as bad when the car is warm, but it sounds like im burning fuel in the exhaust. What causes this and how can I fix it.

Exhaust popping indicates too lean a fuel mixture on the idle circuit of the carb. This can be caused by a number of things. Any vacuum leak will do it. Adding headers and a freer flowing exhaust can lean the engine out to do it sometimes. You can try setting the idle screws a little richer on the carb and see if it helps, but the later carbs were just too lean overall to be able to handle some of these things.
