Who is using one of their ESP 4340 cranks? Has anyone had any problems with them or the quality?

We had to stop using the Eagle cranks as the last one I bought was bad and it took 4 cranks to get a good one. And we have found the Scat steel cranks to be far better in quality and in price.

I never had any 1st hand dealins with the Eagle cranks, but 2 of my buddies have. You couldnt give them an Eagle crank for free now. Came from Eagle with journals off sized pretty bad.

I done alot of researching when I was looking for a crank, and it seems like a good bit of people has had probs with Eagle cranks.

Seems like Eagle rods are great though, just cranks aint macgined right.

I went with a Scat 9000 cast for my 355. Miced great out of the box. Looked good. Been running it since jun/july in mine and no prob so far

I wish I knew what I know now...you wouldn't be able to give me one now.

Built up my motor last year..ran it in the stand..put it in the car..everything fine until I went to install my transmission...I couldn't thanks to Eagle.

Couldn't put a pilot bearing in it because the end of the crank was machined all wrong. Spent about $200 on a couple of custom machined pilot bearings and another $150 in tools (micrometers, etc.) before I found something that would work. Eagle was not so helpful when I called them..it was very tense. Took we 3 months to get this all figured out and the TKO tranny in the car. I was livid.

The Scat cranks come from the same foundry but SCAT has a better reputation for machining tolerances. During my issue, my machinist sent 2 other Eagles back b/c the journals were so far off. Save yourself some greif.

Get a Scat. They've been in business since 1968 and have much tighter QA. I don't know why guys even bother with Eagle stuff when the Scat stuff is the same price or less.

I imagine Eagle has machining problems just like any other manufacturer would-come swith mass production-the real issue is IF you get a crank that is that far off, you should not have any problems getting the issue resolved, so it depends on who you deal with. I had to have a little more weight added to a 4340 crank becasue I wanted it balanced to 8,500 RPM. It had just a slight wobble. As for the Lunati cranks, they are great as far as quality but the price will lighten your wallet that's for sure. I talked to a machinist about the Eagle cranks and he said he has had many issues with them over the years but, Eagle cranks make up about 80% of his business too. Like I said, you deal with enough of them, you're going to get a weird one from time to time-hopefully it's not more often than that. Jabin
