Whats better short or long? Got a short edelbrock but now having pulley alignment problems. Got short pump pulleys from summit with steer pump backet but now steer pump dont line up?? Also high mount altanator bracket, yes or no?

The short pumps didn't have as good accessory brackets as easily available for them.
That is basically why Chevy switched to the long pump. It gave them more room to mount accessories, and by the late 60s, everybody wanted more accessories.
I'd use the long pump. You can get brackets almost free for them because every 70s and 80s Chevy with a V8 can be a bracket donor.

I've noticed that the new BBC crate motors from GM come with the short water pump. Wonder why they went back to the short pump.
I did read something awhile back that stated a short pump actually had better pumping performance simply due to its design, just can't remember where I read that.
