Hey the intake manifold on my 81 has the number 14014432 and says GM CFM above the numbers. The ports on it look really big, like it either had some work done on it or maybe its an aftermarket intake from GM performance parts? Also, its aluminum and has a little sheet metal tray thing pinned on the underside of it. What is that for?

The sheet metal tray is to keep hot oil off the bottom of the runners. It helps keep the air/fuel mixture cooler.

You can work a stock Qjet intake to run strong. Buy David Vizard's manifold book. He shows how to rework a stock intake to flow as well as an aftermarket intake while still making more low end power.

If it's the spreadbore pattern (quadrajet) that's the L-82 manifold, same as the cast iron. Biggest issue is they tended to warp with the EGR functioning, check that out before installing.

14014432 is the stock 81 Z28 aluminum manifold. As far as I can determine, it was used only on 81 Z28s. It is aluminum.

so how would this compare to an edelbrock performer manifold, even worth switching it out for one?

If the Performer is a non-EGR, it will outperform the stock manifold. If the Performer is the EGR version, you probably won't notice any improvement on a stock or nearly stock engine. If the engine is built up, it should benefit from the Edelbrock intake.

Yup my 81 Z28 had aluminum intake that had those same stampings
