Hey guys. So i finally got hold of a new carb (street avenger 770) and intake (edelbrock performer eps) for my sbc400. Thing is im having a bit of a problem starting her up cold. The car fires up in high idle (1600) no problem. When i kick it down the revs will drop to 1000, stay there a bit, then slowly fall until the engine conks out UNLESS I keep my foot on the gas for what seems like forever until she warms up. Anybody know how to fix this. I'm guessing its something to do with the choke? I know very little about adjusting carbs so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try richening or leaning the choke. Turn the thermostat housing either way a couple notches. Keep in mind, changing their position will mess with the RPM levels. It is a teeter tottering act.

You can tell if the engine is lean or rich by choking it more to see if it wants to be richer.

The EPS intakes are a little small for a performance 400. They will do on a stock build, but will start to be a restriction when better heads and cam are used.
