79 Z 28, 454 with a Performer RPM manifold, Edelbrck 750, and a 3 inch air cleaner? I need a hood, and the shop I'm going to buy my hood from says 4 inch cowl hoods are illegal in Washington(line of sight issue).

Is there any way to measure hood clearance without having the hood, such as running tape over the fenders and measuring off the tape?

The bbc Torker 2 is supposed to fit under the stock hood. According to Edelbrock, the Performer RPM is 1.4 inches higher than the Torker 2 and so the RPM manifold should fit with a 2" cowl hood. But you might have to use a lower profile air cleaner.

i have a 80 z28 camaro with a 396 in it with a rpm intake and a 3310-2 holley and the stock cold air induction air cleaner with a factory style K&N air filter.....this all fits under the stock cold air induction hood......and you know the cold air induction hood scoop is not that tall......so yes it would fit with ease...

i also have a 81 camaro with a 3 1/2" L-88 fiberglass hood......and with a bbc under the hood and the victor jr intake and 850 double pumper and nitrous plate and 3/4" carb top spacer for the drop down base 14 X 3" air cleaner it all fits under that with room....

Ryan,

I am running a Goodmark cowl hood. I have the new big block in there, with a Performer (standard) intake, a Q-Jet carb and about a 1/2" spacer on top of the carb so the standard drop base air cleaner does not hit my accelerator pump. With a 3" element, I have about 1/2" of clearance above the wingnut. I am betting you will get the RPM in there without any trouble if you go with the 2 1/2" cowl, and no spacers because the back of the manifold is JUST over 1/2" taller than a Performer 2-O.
