Hey guys,

I'm new to the club, but I have a '73 Camaro and I flushed that Dex Cool crap out of my car and want to put in some new coolant. I bought Prestone Extended Life regular full strength antifreeze to dilute, but I was told by a friend since it was clear and not green that its bad for your engine. Is that true?

I dont see why it would be "bad" for your engine. Did he tell you why? The only thing I have ever heard about coolent is not to mix certain ones. Isnt the one you are talking about adding advertise it to be able to mix with any color?

Open the radiators drain plug, stick the garden hose into the top and flush it thru. Put the Green stuff into it and be done with it. I cannot see a reason to use any extended life coolant in a 2ed gen. Flush the rad with water, fill it with water, run it for a while full, flush and repeat a few times to make sure you get all the extended life out.

As long as all the dex is completely out of the system, it should be OK, if there is any dex in the system at all, you will have problems, make sure the entire system is well flushed including the heater core. If dex mixes with regular glycol it will turn into a gummy brown mess and plug things up.

Dex cannot be mixed with other coolants. PERIOD!
