Guys I was putting on my new pan and noticed the chain looked like it was sagging and loose! Is that normal? I didnt think so . I want to replace it to prevent it breaking or skipping gear teeth. Can someone kinda tell me how to do this? I know I need to pull the balancer what about the crank sprocket? reused? is there anything that the average guy wouldnt know.I have the general idea. Thanks for the help!

Generally you can re-use the gear. If you don't feel safe re-using it, then rent a gear puller at your local parts house. When you put the new gear on use a pipe larger than the crank snout and make sure you get it on straight. Use a 2x4 and as light of tapping as you can to do the job so you do not damage your bearings.

No. They are two separate tools. The one that pulls it off uses 3 bolts and you turn the center with a wrench. The one that pulls it back on threads into the crank then has a big nut and a flat spacer to keep it straight while you pull it on by turning the nut and keeping the center still. It requires the use of two wrenches. I will never use any other method again. I learned the hard way that the threads in the crank are ONLY to be used to hold the torque of the bolt and only to be threaded with the proper installation tool. Anything else and you will rip them out.

Ok guys got it all apart. The chain is loose. I know you need to have both sprockets alligned befor you remove them. I can see a arrow on the cam sprocket ( I guess thats it for the cam) Where the one on the crank? Is it the indentation on the crank snout?? or is there a arrow on that sprocket too??

One way to remove a crank gear is to use a dull cold chisil and a three pound FT!
Whack the gear carefully at the corner of the keyway between two teeth and if it is a powder gear, it should crack like an egg!!
This won't work on a steel gear AND don't whack too hard if you have a cast crank..

They work. The reason they are used is that they are cheaper, and they arent as noisy.
