View Full Version : Wierd stuff in my oil filter

So I changed my oil for the first time after my inital 500 mile change after breaking in the engine. Technically, I guess you could say this was my first 3000 mile change.

Anyhow, I found some weird stuff in my filter. It was greenish brown, and looked like small paint flakes. They were about 1/32" in size, approximately, and I found one in every pleat in the filter element. When I would get one onto my fingernail, and press on it, it would break just like a paint chip. I didn't put any kind of coating on the inside of my block to aid in oil drainage.

The only thing I could think it would be is perhaps the JB Weld I put on the oil pickup tube (parinoid about it falling out...I know, everybody says it won't happen, but still).

Still though, I could not imagine JB Weld turning into little paint flakes.

Any ideas? Should I be worrying about this?

Using a Fram PH35 filter.

You went 3000 miles before your 2nd oil change after the initial break in? http://www.websmileys.com/sm/mad/boese035.gif

Does it hold good/normal oil pressure?

If yes, move on with life and don't worry about it.

If no, you're already screwed so there's still not point in worrying about.

Filters are there to catch stuff. Be glad it did it's job. Could be almost anything. You'll probably never figure it out.
