I am in the process of dressing up the engine on my 71 Camaro. It has the original 307 V8, 2 brl. carb., AT. I want to put some chrome or polished valve covers on but cannot decide the type. At present I have the original painted ones that have one hole on the right cover and two on the left. I have not seen that many 3 hole covers listed in chrome or polished and would like to know if the ones with two holes will work. Do I need the one on the left side with two holes or can I go with one with a single hole. This vehicle was produced in CA and I think that the second hole has something to do with the emissions since it goes to a canister on the left side. Would it hurt the vehicle to eliminate the emission outlet? I want to keep the vehicle pretty much original except for the color, upgrade to the interior and the dressing up of the engine compart. I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

Larry

Get some '69-74 Corvette/Z28 valve covers. IMO, those are the baddest and classiest looking valve covers ever made for a SBC.

Thanks, I like the looks of the LT-1 valve covers but did not realize they had 3 holes. Think I will go with them.

You can use 2 hole valve covers with no problem. On the 3 hole ones, one hole is for the pipe that goes to the air cleaner, one is for the PCV valve that goes to the carb, and the third hole is for the oil fill. You can put oil in from the PCV side and not have any issues. Just pull out the PCV and use a funnel.
