My 73 Z has HEI in it now. I am trying to locate a good set of heavy duty spark plug wires that are CUSTOM fit, and made for the points to HEI conversion. Anyone know of any company that has these? Thanks.

I am trying to locate a good set of heavy duty spark plug wires that are CUSTOM fit, and made for the points to HEI conversion. Anyone know of any company that has these? Thanks. BluEyes 01-07-2005, 12:26:00 PM Just get plug wires for a '75-'81 Camaro. They had HEI from the factory, everything else is the same. HurtHorseZ28 01-07-2005, 02:24:00 PM Just get a set of wires and cut them to fit. I got MSD. Bondo79 01-07-2005, 02:29:00 PM Anything but the cheap Accell "super-suck" 8mm wires. sikzdrivr 01-07-2005, 02:50:00 PM I'm useing the taylors cut to fit 8mm. Never had any trouble with their wires so far. This is my third set. And the boots fit good around my headers, although I do have strait plugs. GoldenOne7710 01-07-2005, 10:09:00 PM I'm running a set of Accel's 8.8mm wires. They've been in service since '98. 79rallysport 01-07-2005, 11:58:00 PM Originally posted by sikzdrivr: I'm useing the taylors cut to fit 8mm. Very nice fit. Only complaint is the boot at the plug end is a little large and I had to modify my thermal boots to get them to fit. HEAVYchev 01-08-2005, 09:38:00 AM Buy the MSD "Super Conductor" universal set. Take your time and route all of them to your preference in the looms before you do any cutting. They also come with a few extra terminals and boots, should you screw up. They're expensive, but you shouldn't have to buy another set for many, many years. BTW, if you cut them about an inch longer than needed, and save the coil wire, you will be able to still use them if you decide to upgrade to a MSD or other aftermarket distributer in the future. ( the extra inch allows for the smaller cap on aftermarket distributors ) BluEyes 01-08-2005, 11:57:00 AM The Accel 'Super Stock' wires are resistance wires. Yeah, they suck - they're just about as good as stock wires. I'll bet the Accel 8.8mm wires are sipral core. Basically any spiral-core wire will have nice low resistance. I got the 'Borg-Warner NASCAR Select' that CSK sells. It was $45, and they only come in grey, but the resistance per foot is really close to where some of the name brand wires advertise. I'm very happy with them, have them on three of our vehicles now. rogerh 01-08-2005, 02:46:00 PM I use Taylor HEI wires on headers and angled plugs. Never had any problems with them. The fit is really nice. night rider 01-09-2005, 01:50:00 AM I use the MSD 8.5mm super conductor cut to fit set. I like them alot. Nice beefy boots, low resistance, good wire. Here's some resistance info on diff wires. *The Accel super stock wires aint good at all* Accel super stock solid core 0 Accel 8.8mm spiral 130 Accel super stock resistance 4,350 Accel 8.8mm 300+ 180 Crane 8.5mm fire wire 625 Jacobs 360 Moroso 8mm blue max 600 MSD 8.5mm super conductor 50 Performance Distributor live wires 250 Pertronix 500 Bondo79 01-09-2005, 01:59:00 AM Originally posted by muscl car: i'm running the accel 8.8 wires and not a problem with them even with header heat.they're currently on a pro form HEI ready to be put on a mallory unilite. Those are the ones im going to get, to replace my cheapo $20 accell wires that dont work. gmachinz 01-09-2005, 09:13:00 AM I use Taylor 409 Race Wire. They are 10.4mm thick are are rated @ 40-50 ohms per foot. |
