I have a 71 SS396 that had the big block yanked and a 307 put in. Trying to figure out if I have the ultra rare frame side big block/Z28 engine mounts, because I really need them for my 1/2" drop body mount bushings and slightly taller intake in order to get my air induction air cleaner to seal against the hood...

I have 1-1/4" from the bolt center down to the subframe, is this the original frameside mount? I see some repros in ebay, and they look similar. I read on here that those Z28/ big block mounts will drop the engine as much as 1-1/2" lower than stock mounts, and I really need that for my setup.

Also, will doing so (dropping engine down)screw up any of my clutch linkages, and do I need a lower trans mount now? Will there be any header or other clearance issues?

Hmmm...good question. I never realized there was a difference in recievers. I have a factory big block 70. Next time I have it up in the air, I will take a measurement.

Hey Chuck,

Did you ever get an answer to your question? I'm also trying to figure out what I've got mounted to my frame.

I have searched several pages of engine mount posts and can not find a suitable answer. Can someone describe to me the difference between the 70 Z28/70&71bbc chassis side engine mount bracket and the regular 70 V8 bracket? Some dimensions would be helpful. thanks.

All I can say it check the stamped #'s on them.

EDIT- I have the 71 SBC mounts in the basement, so I can measure them for comparison.

I took some measurements off of the one mount that was left on my car when I got it. part # 3982307 1-15/16" tall, 3-5/8" wide +/-, 5-3/4" long. Center of bolt to frame 1-1/4" +/-. Hope that helps.

Goat, I have a pair of brand new GM ones. I don't remember how this worked, SB in a BB hole or vise versa. The GM part #'s are 03980942 (right) and 0941 (left). If you don't have a way to look them up, I'll do some measureing for you. Let me know..Rich hpuck7733@webtv.net
