View Full Version : BBC Unique Valve Covers.......search
Aceshigh 01-05-2005, 09:28:00 PM I'm looking for a unique set of valve covers for my new ZZ454 when it is ordered. The stock ones just don't do the motor justice.
NO PLAIN CHROME PIECES PLEASE. Nothing without any color.
So far anything in the regular chevy catalogs I'm finding fairly dull and boring. The all chrome ones are just too plain for my tastes. I like a little flair in everything.
So far I'm trying to find the ones like on the ZZ572 for my ZZ454, anyone know a place that can make these ?? Jay Leno had his custom made for his Rat, so I know it's possible. Please post and hook a help hook a phat rat up.

muscl car 01-05-2005, 09:49:00 PM Aceshigh those valve covers are porous they'll seep oil thru them.my friend has a set of those and after about a few months driving he started noticing them staining.found out later that the metal acted like a sponge and soaked thru.

I didn't know that, that kinda sucks. Good thing I didn't buy those used ones with the oil spot on them then.
Old school ones you posted are exactly the kind I really just don't like and I'm trying to steer clear of.
I found a unique set for $350 that have custom engraving on them of an eagles head in color, with trailing flames, that have the American flag in the flames. Really cool, but I have the link at work, not here at home.
Trying to find something original looking. Nothing old and boring.

I didn't say cost was a barrier.
As long as it's within reason, under $500 I'm willing to buy them.
bigbloc 01-05-2005, 10:59:00 PM Aces,
I bought a set of the covers like on the 502 with the milled fins & put 454 emblems on them.I left my motor black with the black & milled valve covers.

I used to work in the IT department of the payroll company that prints his checks (Entertainment Partners) and saw one of his checks in 1996. For two weeks of regular pay it was $117,000.00. My jaw about hit the floor. Now it is more like $769,230.00 every two weeks.

If I had $500 to spend on valve covers I'd definatley get a set of fabricated bare aluminum ones.
They might not have the kind of flair" some people like, but to me they look damn cool with all the fat tig welds showing http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif Could probbly pick up a set and have them machine buffed for 500 bucks.

Could you use an epoxy type paint on the inside of the valve covers, to seal them, so that wouldn't happen?

I would think so. Are those the valve covers that are actually made by ProForm?

Seen all those.
Sallee's selection was my main resource for finding a broad selection. SBC have a bigger selection and some I wish were available in a BBC version, but the BBC is neglected in this dept. I like the black powdercoated ones like those on the ZZ572. So far this was my favorite besides the custom ones I found. I would prefer a red or royal blue version though.

calereeves 01-07-2005, 02:01:00 AM You could easily have those powdercoated covers painted...or even recoated in a color of your choosing.

If you really like the valve covers I second the powdercoating. Select your base color, leaving the "CHEVROLET" or whatever is raised bare, then have the whole thing powdercoated clear. Will serve two purposes, it will seal the valve cover, and give you alot of depth.
pdq67 01-07-2005, 11:11:00 PM He, He!!
Onna these days I'm gonna mount a complete 409 "W" motor top-end on a BB!!
I am gonna make it work just for the fun of it.....
I figure a set of at least 90 cc deep dished, figure-8 custom, flat-top pistons to match the 409's flat valve layout AND I'm home free...

Ah....gotcha, I thought it might be something like that, figured someone would explain it to me. Cool. Nope, never seen it. Can I use those for a BBC.
