Looks like a good dirt track intake when you're slidding through the turn.

A good intake basically the torker intake. Just older technology.

Dunno why the carb mount is twisted, doesn't look like they used it to straighten out the runners any...
The twist on the carb wouldn't prevent it working properly though, the only thing the carb sees is vacuum, it doesn't care which way the air goes after it passes through the throttle plates.
So the Tarantula is a BBC intake, hmmm. My '70 has a tarantula sticker on the rear glass. It's got a 350 under the hood though, and the build numbers say 350 as well. Oh, well.

-'92 LeBaron LX sedan - all family owned, great daily driver and highway cruiser. 52mm TB, rear discs swapped. 5-sp swap in the works.
-'70 Camaro - 350, 4-sp, needs work, lotsa fun
-'65 Nova - 230 I6, 3 on the tree, nothing power. HEI swap. 5sp and 4 wheel discs in the works.

I guess the idea is to get the effect of more intake volume without raising the base of the carb. By lengthening the runners slightly, by twisting them, it fools the motor into thinking it has almost a tunnelram. Probably the reason for the highrange of rpm's listed.

the tarantula intake was very popular in the 60's and into the early 70's.the design of the intake makes the intake charge have a straighter path to the cylinders.this intake is a perfect day 2/old school item for a BBC.i know ZS10 would want one on his 427 BBC because of the theme his car has "old school/day 2"

I've always loved the twisted carb pad of the Tarantula. It just looks like it means business http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
It's old school for sure. The straight runner design isn't the best though. Notice how all the new style single planes have a bit of a curve in the runners? Still, it's a good running intake for the price.
Chuck, if you ever happen across a Scorpion intake, let me know. I've always wanted one "just to have". http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

Well how does the throttle linkage work properly? You would need a special carb or a adpter wouldnt ya?
