'79Z 350 with a/c. Can I remove and replace the cam without removing anything but the radiator for clearance?
Thanks.

I believe that you have to remove everything from the radiator through the grill.
But I've never done it.

Not with that A/C condenser there.

You have to take the condenser out, but you can do that without unhooking the lines. It's a PITA, but I've done it several times before.

The a/c condenser is my biggest concern. Any tips or tricks or advise. This will be my first attempt.

When you start pulling the cam you are going to wish you did. You are only going to make it more dificult trying make short cuts. Remember the cam is just as long as the motor is.. Can you fit two motors in your car front to back?

That has got to be the best response I've heard when someone asks what they have to remove to do an in car cam swap.

Simple, obvious, and to the point.

I'll have to remember to use that analogy the next time someone asks, if you don't mind.

And of course you know to remove the rockers, push rods and lifters.

Thanks for the replies. I understand that removing the engine would be the best way to do it, unfortunatley I don't have the equipment or smarts to do it. I am planning an intake swap and carb figured if I had enough clearance to sneak the cam out, I might give it a shot as long as everything is opened up.
I've read just about every thing I can get my hands on about how to do it - and am building up my courage to try it- wish me luck

It's really not that difficult. Just take the radiator completely out and pull the condensor out, but leave it hanging over the nose of the car by the lines (carefully). Take out the upper grill and you ought to have plenty of room to slip the cam out through the grill opening. No need to pull the engine to change a cam!!
