Installed Milodon high capacity oil pan and 13/4 headers...problem: can't get the oil filter on and off without virtually removing the header! I know I can use an oil filter extension system but was looking for something more simple like using a smaller oil filter etc...any suggestions would be great..thanks in advance...also have oil leaking from breather cap on valve cover and getting down into clutch area...does using synthetic oil help reduce this? Thanks again.

Small block Chevy? Try a Fram PF30 filter- that's the shorter style and usually clears headers better than the longer style PF13.

Synthetic oil will typically make existing oil leaks worse, not better. Are you using baffled valve covers and a proper PCV system? Failure to use either is misery on a street driven SBC.

Moroso kickout oil pan, Hooker Super Comps, gotta pull the header off the engine to remove the filter. A remote system is on my list for this year.

Go to the parts store and ask for a filter for a new 8.1L Vortec (Chevy 3500HD). It has the same threads and o-ring size, but it's a LOT shorter than a Fram PH30.

Yea, I bumped into that one as well. It stunk, bought a remote, love the thing, don't know how I ever got a long with out it. MY advice, but a top $$ one, not the low dollar ones, their junk. You'll be happier, and becarefull when routing the oil hoses, remember, rubber and hot steel don't play well together.

Ditto. On the little street toy I can spin the filter off, then i have to dump it sideways, fish it back along the exhaust system, over the mufflers, past the trans and remove it just behind the trans cross member. Yes, lowering a vehicle and trying to get ground clearance at the same time can be a monumental PITA. With that pan and those headers, don't be too surprised if you have problems finding a high-torque mini-starter that will clock such that it will clear everything.
Isn't this world of high performance FUN!!!

Myself, I have not seen ANY remote oil filter package that I would trust that comes out of any of the mail order houses. I'm sure someone makes a good one, I've just never seen it!

i have super comps and that same kicked out pan and i had no problems getting the filter on and off. I put it straight on without any spilling too... PH30 style filter. There is a nice gap there thats lined up directly underneath the filter mounting spot pretty much. There is another way too, from the back and a little bit sideways. Play around, its not impossible!

As for starters, I was able to get my huge stock starter down in there from the top. It was a challenge, but it was accomplished. Have to have header loose, but thats standard for headers and starters.
