Ok.. So I had a dead battery, started charging it with my grand am - an hour and a half, still not enough power to crank. New battery too, btw. For some reason it got drained.

One time it almost started so I stepped on the gas and I figured it wasnt going to start so I pulled the key out - and there was a sharp sounding noise before it wound down.

I went to walmart and got one of those portable battery chargers and I hooked it up today. Now all it does is tick tick tick tick and the fan doesnt turn at all.

Am I not letting it charge enough? Did I kill the starter by trying to start it every once in a while it was charging?

ANY info would be appreciated. If I do need a new starter where would you recommend I get it and how much do they go for?

Thanks

That is what we here like to call a DEAD BATTERY!
If you tried jumping it for over an hour, you probably boiled the battery and ruined it.
It will not hold a charge now. You'll have to get a new battery.

OR, for some other reason the battery is not taking charge.
Take the battery out and take it into your local parts store (NAPA or something similar) and have them test it.
I'd bet that they come up with it being bad.

Thanks </font> Have you checked your cables? Sounds like you may just have a bad contact there.
