Hello all, I have a chance to buy a 1980 Firebird Esprit that is priced VERY reasonably, practically a steal. He has over three thousand dollars in receipts in just the last year, new wxhaust, tires etc.. The car is a daily driver and in pretty good shape. Here is my question. It has a great running 301 in it, but of course I would have to build a 400 or 455 pontiac for it. How difficult is this swap? I have a 388 Chevy also I could put in it. How hard is the Pontiac to Chevy conversion? The first engine I ever built was a 350 Pontiac almost 20 years ago and I have only built small block chevys since. I feel better about a a Chevy under the hood, but am not opposed to the Pontiac motors either. Whats involved in either swap? While the 301 runs good, I know they only make like 140 horse or so, so I will obviously need more horses to have any fun. Thanks for your help.

the engine frame mounts would need to be switched, along with the transmission (from pontiac to chevy) but from 301 pontiac to bigger pontiac i think its a bolt in swap..

added to what 1981coupe400ci said. The fuel lines would be to be re routed. Pont. has them/pump on the driver's side, chevy is on the pass. side.
